Snapchat Geofilter: A Concise and Simple Explanation Snapchat is a mobile app both for the Android and the Apple (iOS) operating system. The app allows users to take pictures and capture videos that disappear after they are viewed. The sender has control over how many seconds the media stays live (1 to 10 seconds) after the recipient views it. This “ephemeral” nature of the app makes it popular with the younger generation (millennials).

Geofilters are a fun way to share where you are, or what you’re up to, by adding a fun overlay to your Snap. If you have location services and Filters enabled, Geofilters appear at thousands of places around the world. After you take a Snap, swipe to see what’s around!

Geofilters are location-based so the filters that become available to you are dependent on where you are in the world. There are two types of geofilters: community and on-demand. Community geofilters free and these are created by artists and designers for their particular location whether be it a school/university, a street, or any public location. After creating these free community geofilters, they must be submitted to Snapchat for review. It may take up to 6 days before these submissions are approved or rejected.

On-demand geofilters, on the other hand, are for certain businesses or persons who want to create or promote a business, an event or a particular location. These geofilters are paid ones and approval/rejection takes only hours. On-demand geofilters are great for grabbing the attention your targeted consumers.
