There are lots of ways to backup your mobile’s data but for this article, we will discuss 2 easy ways to save your data. We will use a portable device (SD card) and PC to create a backup of your files.

Method 1: Backup Galaxy S5 Using An SD Card

You will need a large capacity SD Card for this procedure especially if you’ve got plenty of photos, music and other data on your device. Follow the instructions below to make a backup of your data to the portable device.

Insert the SD Card into your smartphone’s SD Card slot.

If the SD Card is not formatted, a prompt will appear asking if you want to format the card (yes, of course!).

  1. From the Home Screen, touch Apps.
  2. Choose File Explorer or My Files.
  3. On the screen, look for the “Local Storage” and find and tap “Device Storage”.
  4. Find the “Menu” icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  5. Tap it to show the drop-down menu.
  6. Choose “Select“.
  7. Here you must choose all the files and folders you want to backup.
  8. Choose all of them by ticking then checkbox to the left of the files/folders.
  9. Select the “Menu” icon and then choose “Copy“.
  10. Tap “SD Card“.
  11. Create a new folder or select an existing folder on the SD Card where you will paste the file you previously copied.
  12. Select “Paste Here” to backup your file.

Method 2: Backup Galaxy S5 Using A PC

For this next procedure, you will need your laptop or PC to backup your data. Make sure that USB debugging is enabled in the “Developer’s Options” for this method to work. Follow the instructions below to do this.

  1. Using the USB cable that came with your phone, connect your device to your PC.
  2. Your smartphone will be detected by your Laptop/PC and will automatically install the device drivers for your mobile.
  3. A window will pop up on your Laptop/PC. To view the files, click “Open“.
  4. Two storage devices will be detected by your Laptop/PC, Card and Phone. Choose “Phone” which is the internal storage of your gadget and where your desired files to backup are located.
  5. Choose all the files from this storage device and select “Copy“.
  6. Now go to your computer’s hard drive, create a new folder or select a folder where you want to back up your files.
  7. Click “Paste Here” and you’re done!
  8. Disconnect your Galaxy S5 from your Laptop/Computer.
